WEEKEND: Lake Crescent Lodge to glitter in wintry display starting Saturday

OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — The holiday lights come on Saturday night.

The lighting of Lake Crescent Lodge will be celebrated with singing carolers, festive drinks and a visit from Santa Claus.

The free festivities begin at sundown, about 5 p.m., and continue for an hour as decorative lights are turned on for Christmas at the lodge and on its surrounding cabins.

The celebration is open to the public. Guests are asked to bring donations for Toys for Tots or the Port Angeles Food Bank.

The lodge is at 416 Lake Crescent Road off U.S. Highway 101 about 18 miles west of Port Angeles.

Earlier Saturday, Lake Crescent Lodge will host Franklin and Theodore’s Teddy Bear Tea at 2 p.m.

Reservations are required for the tea, which costs $25 for one child and one adult. Admission for each additional child is $8. For each additional adult, it is $18.

The teas are scheduled at 2 p.m. every Saturday through Dec. 27.

Guests can learn the history of the teddy bear and the two presidents who influenced Olympic National Park.

They also can have photos taken with the teddy bears, Franklin and Theodore.

This is the second year the lodge has remained open during winter months. The lodge used to close from the end of October until late April or the beginning of May. Now, everything is open through New Year’s Day.

Locals-only room rate

That includes lodging rooms, the Roosevelt fireplace cabins, its award-winning restaurant and the gift shop.

A holiday meal was offered on Thanksgiving, and more special meals are planned on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

A $79-a-night “locals-only” room rate is offered this month along with other specials posted at http://tinyurl.com/lakecrescentspecials.
