BRINNON — Eight people were rescued from their Brinnon homes after flood waters from the Duckabush River trapped them Wednesday.
An unknown number of others may have been flooded out of their homes but did not need rescue, said Keppie Kepplinger, deputy director of the Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management.
A family of five that Brinnon fire fighters evacuated from a home on at 5 p.m. Wednesday were being picked up by family members, Kepplinger said at about 7:30 p.m.
Another family of three was evacuated as well, she said.
Brinnon fire fighters were going door-to-door to see if people needed assistance, Kepplinger said.
The Brinnon Community Center has been opened for residents who need shelter.
After two days of heavy rain, water had flooded the Brinnon Fire Department. Kepplinger said she was told it had four feet of water in it.
Water was on the road on several thoroughfares, including at Egg and I Road at Center Road, she said.
The state Department of Transportation reported at 6 p.m. Wednesday that water was over the roadway on Highway 101 near Snow Creek Road.
At about 2 p.m., the Jefferson County Public Utility District reported that power had been restored after several major outages.
However, by 7 p.m., crews were back out repairing a line from Marrowstone Island that feeds Oak Bay Road to Port Ludlow.
The PUD expected power to be out for two to four hours.
“In this break in the weather, we’d like to thank everyone for their patience during this storm and urge you to prepare for the finale Thursday,” the PUD said in a tweet earlier Wednesday.
The National Weather Service said that another storm is expected to come in late this afternoon.
