Port Angeles Coast Guard crew helping with search

Man reported missing between Bellingham and San Juan Islands

BELLINGHAM — Coast Guard crews from Port Angeles and Bellingham were searching Monday for a man reported missing between Bellingham and the San Juan Islands.

Nick Saling, 53, failed to return Sunday night after a sailing trip to Cypress Island, Coast Guard 13th District officials said.

His 25-foot sailboat was spotted northeast of Lummi Island.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound were notified of Saling’s disappearance by his sister at about 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The Coast Guard issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched crews from Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles, Station Bellingham and the Bellingham-based cutter Terrapin.

Anyone with information on Saling’s whereabouts is asked to call Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound at 206-217-6001.
