PORT TOWNSEND — Having tasted the fruit of politics, Jefferson County Commissioner Phil Johnson, D-Port Townsend, wants another bite.
Johnson, a political neophyte four years ago, said Monday he will run for a second four-year term in the Nov. 4 election.
“I enjoy the job,” he said in an interview Monday morning.
“I feel like I can do some good for the county.”
Republican Dennis Schultz, 71, already feels the same way about himself.
The former petroleum engineer and consultant turned kiwi and sheep farmer announced two weeks ago he will run for Johnson’s District 1 seat.
He told the Peninsula Daily News on March 18 that the present board keeps “increasing the size of county government.”
Schultz also criticized a proposed septic system ordinance for not including enough community input.
It was put on hold for a year under weight of fierce criticism from residents.
