Highway repairs to begin south of Forks

FORKS — Long-awaited repairs to a stretch of road on U.S. Highway 101 south of Bogachiel State Park in Clallam County will begin today.

The state Department of Transportation’s emergency contractor, Interwest Construction, will begin repair work at milepost 184.5, just a few miles south of the city of Forks near the Clallam-Jefferson County border.

The area has been under one-way alternating traffic conditions since mid-November 2021, when it was hit by floods.

Repairs are expected to take about eight weeks to complete. U.S. 101 will remain one-way alternating traffic at the slide site. A portable temporary traffic control signal will direct traffic during construction.

The work will include rebuilding the washed-out area of highway, rebuilding and reinforcing the slope next to the highway and drilling new drains into the adjacent hillside.

North Olympic Peninsula travelers are encouraged to sign up for email updates.

Real-time traffic information is available on the WSDOT statewide travel map, the WSDOT app and WSDOT regional Twitter account.
