Clallam: County vacates part of Old Blyn Highway

BLYN — Citing the ongoing Jimmycomelately Creek restoration project, Clallam County commissioners approved vacating about one-quarter-mile of Old Blyn Highway just north of U.S. Highway 101 so it can be removed by mid-October.

Vacating and removing the section of highway will allow Jimmycomelately Creek to be diverted to its new channel as part of the estuary restoration project.

The commissioners approved abandoning the road with four conditions:

* Rights of way be made available at each of the newly created ends of the road — one to the east of the section to be vacated and one to the west — and cul-de-sacs to be built.

* The intersection with U.S. 101 west of the proposed vacation be reopened with the approval of the state Department of Transportation.

* Adequate rights of way are given to the county for the Olympic Discovery Trail to connect with Old Blyn Highway on each side of vacated section.

* Permits are issued to allow bridge construction and related construction across waterways along the proposed route of the Olympic Discovery Trail.
