PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang felled and chipped trees on Camp Hayden and Crescent Beach roads and at Salt Creek Campground during the week of Feb. 25 to March 1.

Crew members removed storm debris and checked ditches and culverts along East Beach, Whiskey, East Lyre River, West Lyre River, Miller, Shadow Lane, Graulo-Paulo, Liljedahl, Wasankari, Joyce-Piedmont, Spruce Railroad Trail, Deer Park, Township-Line, O’Brien, Blue Mountain, Siebert Creek, Wild Currant, Gasman and West Bluff roads.

During the week of March 4-9, the chain gang cleaned up 2,320 pounds of litter from two illegal dumpsites in Mount Pleasant Pit then later in the week cleaned up another 4,920 pounds of litter from the same two sites.

Notable items found include 200 needles, two camping trailers and contents, tools, three knives, three propane tanks and three microwaves.

Crew members felled and chipped trees on Camp Hayden Road and at Salt Creek Campground. They removed three dangerous trees at the campground.

During the week of March 11-15 the chain gang continued to work on motor homes and trailers in the Mount Pleasant Pit, demolishing four trailers and two motor homes for a total of 29,930 pounds of litter.

Deputies reported that there is still another large motorhome and a full dumpster to remove.

Crew members assisted the road department by brushing and chipping along Camp Hayden, Lower Elwha, Mapleton and Evergreen roads as at Salt Creek Campground.
