Centrum’s chamber music series presents an afternoon of musical excellence

Centrum’s Chamber Music Series continues its tradition of excellence with an exceptional performance featuring renowned musicians brought together by Lucinda Carver, Artistic Director of Chamber Music at Centrum.

Join Centrum for an afternoon of melodic brilliance and celebrate the timeless beauty of chamber music with this second concert in their 2023-24 Chamber Music Series at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at the Wheeler Theater in Port Townsend.

The program promises a captivating journey through the masterpieces of classical chamber music, showcasing works by Mozart, Brahms, and Rebecca Clarke: Mozart’s Kegelstatt Trio for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano; Brahms’ Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano, Op.78; Rebecca Clarke’s Prelude, Allegro, and Pastorale for Clarinet and Viola (1941); and Brahms’ Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano, Op. 114.

This special event is made possible by the generous sponsorship of Anne and Dick Schneider, dedicated supporters of the arts in our community.

The esteemed musicians gracing the stage for this unforgettable afternoon include:

  • Lucinda Carver, renowned pianist, conductor and Chair of Keyboard Studies at USC
  • Michele Zukovsky, former principal clarinetist of the L.A. Philharmonic and esteemed educator
  • Aimée Kreston, principal second violin of the Minnesota Orchestra and former Concertmaster of L’Orchestre de Paris
  • Jonathan Moerschel, violist of the renowned Calder Quartet and Lecturer of Viola and Chamber Music at the University of California Santa Barbara
  • Cécilia Tsan, prize-winning cellist and active performer in the motion picture industry and recording studios of Los Angeles

Lucinda was appointed Port Townsend Chamber Music Festival Artistic Director in late 2009. Called “a first rate conductor” by the New York Times, she is active as a conductor and pianist.

Her orchestral appearances have included the National Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Pacific Symphony and Los Angeles Philharmonic, while opera conducting credits include the Minnesota Opera, New York City Opera and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City.

Lucinda has performed as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Pacific Symphony, Symphony Augusta, Capella Salzburgensis, Musica Angelica and Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, and has been featured in solo and chamber music recitals at the Carmel Bach Festival, San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, Prince George Music Festival, and under the aegis of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. She also teaches piano, harpsichord and conducting at the USC Thornton School of Music, and was appointed Vice Dean in 2013. She served as music director of the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra from 1991 to 2002.

In addition to presenting world-class performances, Centrum is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of chamber musicians. Through initiatives like the Chamber Music Intensive, scheduled for the end of May, Centrum provides invaluable opportunities for young talents to learn and grow in the chamber music tradition.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the magic of chamber music at its finest. Tickets are available for $45 and can be purchased online or at the venue on the day of the performance.

For more information and ticket purchases, visit Centrum’s online box office or call 1-800- 746-1982 or visit Centrum.org
