A pair of sloops race to the finish line as the Port Townsend Sailing Association’s Classic Mariners Regatta got underway. The 39th regatta returned after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Port Townsend city employee Rafe Thornton, in yellow slicker, and an unidentified man, survey a landslide from Washington Street that fell onto Water Street and closed access to the ferry terminal and other locations in downtown Port Townsend due to heavy rainfall Sunday afternoon. Jefferson County Emergency Management issued a warning at 1:55 p.m. that the street was closed and alternate routes were necessary.
