BLYN — Clallam County Fire District 3 firefighters contained a nearly-one-acre brush fire that was burning near Blyn on Wednesday.

Crews found an active fire of about a half-acre that was burning in logging slash and growing, moving close to timber off Rhapsody Drive at about 11:30 a.m.

The fire was contained to less than one acre at about 1:30 p.m., District 3 officials said.

Homes in the area, while not in immediate threat, were checked by crews in case the fire grew significantly, according to a news release.

A column of smoke from the fire was visible from Blyn.

The fire was turned over to the state Department of Natural Resources at about 2:30 p.m.

Clallam County Fire District 3 responded with three brush engines, two structural engines, two water tenders, two aid cars and two chief officers.

DNR responded with two brush engines, two hand crews and a supervisor.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue, Quilcene Fire Department and Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue assisted with two brush engines and a water tender, District 3 officials said.
