Fire burns home east of Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A home just east of Port Angeles was significantly damaged in a residential fire, although no individuals were injured.
At 5:39 a.m. Sunday, Clallam County Fire District 2 (CCFD2) and the Port Angeles Fire Department (PAFD) were dispatched to the fire in the 2900 block of Vinup Street.
When firefighters arrived, they found flames burning through the roof. An additional fire engine was requested from Clallam County Fire District 3.
A resident on the property indicated that the occupant was not there, and a quick search confirmed that information.
Crews laid out water supply lines down Vinup Street and Larch Avenue and then began interior fire suppression.
The fire was mostly extinguished within 10 minutes, Fire Chief Jake Patterson said.
The fire caused smoke and heat damage throughout the residence, and most of the center third of the building was destroyed, Patterson said.
A nearby neighbor’s fence also was burned, according to a press release.
Patterson said the fire will be labeled undetermined as there is no indication of what caused it.
In total, three fire engines, two chief’s vehicles, one ambulance and 10 personnel responded to the scene.
