FORKS — An aircraft landed on U.S. Highway 101 about eight miles north of Forks as a pilot was forced to make an emergency landing.

There were no injuries and traffic was not blocked for long. The incident happened about 4:50 p.m. Sunday near milepost 201.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Chelsea Hodgson said the plane was a type of experimental fixed-wing aircraft. The pilot made an emergency landing on the highway and was able to clear the aircraft off the roadway.

The plane ended up in a turnout, Hodgson said.

“He was able to pull himself off the roadway. There were power lines there that he missed,” Hodgson said.

It was not immediately known if the aircraft sustained mechanical or electrical failure, Hodgson said.
