PORT ANGELES — Five Acre School will offer a double-header performance for children tonight.

The curtain will rise on two plays, “How the People Got the Drum” and “Maria Morevna,” in the Peninsula College Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd, at 7 p.m.

Admission to the shows is by donation. Proceeds will go to the Five Acre School scholarship fund.

“How the People Got the Drum,” a Native American story, will be the first performance, depicted by students in kindergarten, first grade and second grade.

In the play, the Sun and Coyote and other animals devise a plan to help the people express what is in their hearts by helping them create the first drum.

Children in the private school’s Discovery Class adapted the Salish tale into a play.

Second play

Students in the third through seventh grades will perform “Maria Morevna,” a Russian folk tale, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The play has sword fighting, princesses, magical flying shape-shifters, a bumbling but lovable hero, the four winds, an evil wizard and his mother.
