PORT ANGELES — A DJ dance party to benefit the Clallam County YMCA is set for tonight at the Metta Room, 132 E. Front St.
Admission to the party, which has not only dancing to DJ Aye Brau but also prizes, a photo booth and fitness-challenge games, is by donation, with $10 suggested.
Proceeds will benefit the Y’s Power of Community campaign, which provides financial aid to families and individuals who otherwise could not afford a Y membership or program fee.
Christine Loewe, a campaign volunteer, is urging party-goers to dig out their favorite retro fitness fashions and, if at all possible, recall some dance moves from past decades.
The theme of the evening is “dress in your favorite era of fitness [to] bring a bit of levity to fundraising process,” she said, adding that tonight’s party will start with a happy hour and appetizers at 6 p.m. and move on to dancing and other activities from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The evening’s prizes are fitness- and beauty-related, Loewe said: A three-month membership at the YMCA, two free entries in any of the North Olympic Discovery Marathon races and an Olympic Day Spa microdermabrasion session are among the items to be raffled off.
The Power of Community campaign, on through April 8, has a goal of $135,000.
Money raised through this effort ensures that no one is turned away for an inability to pay, Loewe added, noting that last year, the Y provided $141,678 in scholarship funds.
The campaign had raised $94,492 as of Monday.
Power of Community money also supports youth programs such as After the Bell, the Exercise and Thrive program for cancer survivors and the 7th Grade Initiative, which provides a free membership for every seventh-grader in the community.
