PORT TOWNSEND — A Southern Hemisphere botany talk will take place in the Natural History Building of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center in Fort Worden State Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the Olympic chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society, Southern Hemisphere botany will be presented by chapter members Dan Post, Wendy McClure, Ann Weinmann and Fred Weinmann.
This trio will tell botany stories and share photographs from the Southern Hemisphere, including Tasmania, southern Australia and Western Australia.

AARP driver safety
CHIMACUM — A driver safety class will be offered at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, at 9 a.m. Thursday and Friday, Jan. 22-23.
The class is designed to help refresh driving skills and inform of revised laws.
The cost of the class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers.
A participant can qualify for an insurance discount if he or she is 50 or older.

Paddlers to meet
PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Paddlers will meet at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
This month’s program features Chris Duff, who will share adventures of his journey rowing the Northern Reach to Iceland.
The public is invited.
A $5 donation for the Port Angeles Food Bank is requested.

PORT TOWNSEND — A Sea Shanty Song Circle will be held at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The event is free, family-friendly and open to the public.
Wayne Palsson of Seattle will lead the evening of singing.

Wellness forum slated Wednesday
SEQUIM — Kristin LaMoure, founder of the Sequim Gym, will present a free WOW! Working on Wellness forum titled “Move MORE for LESS Disease” at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
LaMoure’s goal is to educate, motivate and help people of all ages discover how they can move more to help prevent disease and reduce symptoms of many diseases, according to a news release.
She has been involved in the fitness industry since 1989, when she first became a certified fitness instructor.
Since that time, LaMoure has become certified as a personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise and American College of Sports Medicine.
She began the Sequim Gym as a personal training studio in 2004 and eventually expanded to a full-size gym.
Family Craft Club
PORT ANGELES — The First Step Family Craft Club will meet at the Port Angeles Drop-In Center, 325 E. Sixth St., from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 14, 21 and 28.
Crafts will focus language development and school readiness skills.
Kid and families are welcome to these free weekly meetings.

Meditation circles
PORT ANGELES — Joyous Refuge will host meditation circles at 231 E. 12th St. from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. this Wednesday and Wednesdays, Jan. 21 and 28.
Admission is by donation, and all are welcome.
Forty minutes of meditation will be followed by discussion of various topics.

Pediatrician to talk
PORT ANGELES — Pediatrician Dr. Grace Yelland will be the guest speaker at NAMI’S affiliate meeting for the public at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The meeting will be in Linkletter Hall’s basement at Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St.
Yelland is also trained to practice adolescent medicine.
She will talk about attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
A short NAMI affiliate meeting, which the public is welcomed to attend, will be at 6:30 p.m., prior to Yelland speaking.
Angel Lucas, the board of directors’ new president, will preside at the meeting.
Refreshments will be served.
