LIVE MUSIC: Let songs of the holiday season move you

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND Happy Hanukkah to all. We’re counting down the days left in 2014, and there are quite a few venues offering a variety of ways to celebrate.

Port Angeles

■ On Saturday at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., the Yogoman Burning Band, with their Jamaica-New Orleans blend of rhythms, plays at 9:30 p.m. $5 cover.

■ Every Tuesday at The Lazy Moon Craft Tavern, 130 S. Lincoln St., Doug Parent plays his acoustic Americana from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Wednesdays, Ches Ferguson & Friends perform classic rock with a few originals thrown in from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Note: Friday night music will be on hiatus the next two weeks, returning Jan. 9 with Bread & Gravy.

■ On Friday at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Gordon Bowlby hosts a jam session from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

On Saturday, DJ Lumpy spins western classics starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ On Friday at The Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., the Yogoman Burning Band brings more of its danceable sound in at 9:30 p.m. with a $5 cover.

On Saturday, DJ RoBoTiX is spinning the decades from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Wednesday, New Year’s Eve, the Nasty Habits will play their notorious glam rock from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Advance tickets are $10 at Bar N9ne and the Metta Room or $15 at the door.

Sequim

■ On Saturday at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Taylor Ackley is back for a visit and plays jazz from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Wind Rose Blues Revue, with Bill Volmut and Rufus Perry on guitar, Taylor Ackley on bass and Mark Volmut on drums, offers up a bluesy holiday blend from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Friday at Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., Gil Yslas plays a mellow variety from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Whiskey Minstrels play from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, New Year’s Eve, it’s time to dance to the classic country of the Old Sidekicks from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Then you can really rock out with Black Rock from 9 p.m. to after midnight.

■ On Friday at The Cedars at Dungeness Stymie’s Bar and Grill, 1965 Woodcock Road, Mick and Barry play classic rock and country from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., Round Trip, a trio with Rodger Bigelow, Jim Noble and Dee Coburn, plays a variety mix of pop standards and classics for the public to dance to from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No cover.

■ On Wednesday, New Year’s Eve, at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Naki’i offers a traditional Hawaiian musical fare along with some originals from 6 p.m. Watch the ball drop in New York’s Times Square at 9 p.m. Phone 360-797-1480 for more information.

Blyn

■ Tonight in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to a collaboration of six area musicians from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This Christmas celebration will feature seasonal music and more.

On Friday, Gold Diggers plays new Top 40 dance music from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, on the new casino stage, Justin Kausal-Hayes plays songs from the ’60s through the ’90s from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Then, The Who Else, a tribute band, plays all the greatest hits of The Who from 10 p.m. to midnight.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, the cool country style of Buck Ellard can be heard from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, DJ O.B.1 plays for a slot tournament on the Rainforest side from 9 p.m. to midnight.

On Wednesday, New Year’s Eve, Idol Eyes, a dance band, plays from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the Casino stage, and DJ O.B.1 will rock the Rainforest side.

Port Hadlock

■ On Saturday at the Ajax Café, 21 N. Water St., Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ On Tuesdays at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., there is a fiddler jam session by invitation only, at 7 p.m., but it’s free to listen.

On Wednesday, New Year’s Eve, dance the night away with The Better Half (funk-infused rock ‘n’ soul) and The Shivering Denizens (roots, rock and outlaw country) starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., George Rezendes and The Toolshed Trio end the year with their American roots, rock and blues tunes, plus a special Jerry Garcia tribute, starting at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Sam Maynard, a local singer/songwriter, plays originals and covers from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

On Tuesdays, join in on an open mic with Jarrod Bramson at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., The Pitfalls are here with special guests playing jazz at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Jack&Joe are on stage at 6 p.m. with plenty of country, Western and honky-tonk to help slim down after the Christmas feasting.

On Tuesdays, join in the weekly jazz night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This week, Combo Choro plays traditional Brazilian jazz for the free event.

On Wednesday at 9 p.m., Crow Quil Night Owls starts the party to end the year. After midnight, DJ Coarse plays into 2015. $5 cover.

■ On Saturday at the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., Cold Comfort performs rock, soul and R&B from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

On Wednesday, celebrate New Year’s Eve with Captain Peacock bringing the beats from 10 p.m. to sometime in 2015.

■ On Monday, there is an open mic at The Tin Brick, 232 Taylor St., with sign-ups at 6 p.m. and the show at 6:30 p.m. For more information, phone 360-379-4181.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays guitar at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Every Saturday at Snug Harbor Cafe, 281732 U.S. Highway 101, Skeeter Ezell plays covers of Roy Orbison and the like from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Every Thursday, The Boiler Room, 711 Water St., host an all-ages open mic at 8 p.m. Sign-ups start at 7 p.m.

High notes

■ On Wednesday, the fifth annual Quimper Grange New Year’s Eve Fundraiser Dance will begin at 8 p.m. and go until midnight at 1219 Corona Ave., Port Townsend.

Two local bands, Susannah Gals from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Airstream Traveler from 10 p.m. to midnight will play with guest callers calling squares, contras, reels, circles, mixers and more. No partners needed, family-friendly and alcohol free; $10 donation, but no one will be turned away. All dances taught.

■ On Wednesday at Manresa Castle, 651 Cleveland St., Port Townsend, Jim Nyby and the F Street Band play New Orleans rhythm and blues and early ’50s soul for the New Year Eve dance party from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Tickets are $15. For more information, phone 360-385-5750.

■ On Wednesday, New Year’s Eve, at C’est Si Bon, 23 Cedar Park Drive, Port Angeles, the Soul Ducks will do a set for the banquet dinner from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., and then the band will then play hoppin’ rockabilly and jumping blues until midnight. Tickets are $40 per person; for reservations, phone 360-457-7025.
