Edwards strikes out 13 batters in Jim’s victory

PORT ANGELES — Anne Edwards went the distance on the mound striking out 13 in Jim’s Pharmacy’s 6-1 12U softball victory over Boulevard Wellness.

Edwards, Kylie Hutton and Taylor Worthington all had hits and scored for Jim’s.

Jim’s catcher Kylie Hutton threw out two runners trying to steal bases.

Boulevard pitcher Cheyenne Zimmer struck out eight.

Jenna McGoff scored the lone run for Boulevard.

KONP puts up 17

PORT ANGELES — KONP rolled past ILWU 17-5 in four innings in a 16U softball game.

Ella Holland pitched for KONP and received stellar defense from her teammates.

ILWU was led by Nacia Bohman, who scored two runs.

“ILWU hit the ball well, but the KONP defense was playing lights out,” ILWU coach Brandon Howard said.

Blowout victories

PORT ANGELES — Ethan Flodstrom led off with a home run and Athlete’s Choice never looked back in a season-opening 28-2 drubbing of Sequim Co-op in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth baseball action.

Athlete’s Choice totaled 12 hits, 12 walks and three batters were hit by pitches in the victory.

Flodstrom went 2 for 2 with three walks to lead the way at the plate.

Brody Merritt, Alex Lamb, Tristin Dodson, Eric Emery, Brayden Phegley, Tanner Walker and Dalton Lucas each had at least one hit.

Merritt, Lamb, Emery and Walker combined for five strikeouts, four walks and allowed only one hit on the mound for Athlete’s Choice.

In a 10-0 win over First Federal of Port Angeles, Flodstrom and Merritt teamed to toss a one-hit shutout for Athlete’s Choice in a 10-0 victory.

The duo combined to strike out eight while yielding just two walks.

Flodstrom went 2 for 3 with a double, Wyatt Hall went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Eric Emery had two hits and a pair of RBIs and Kamron Meadows was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

Also collecting hits for Athlete’s Choice were Merritt, Lamb, Dodson, Sean Hanrahan and Tanner Walker.

Seth Elwood had First Federal’s lone hit.

Lions lap Nor’Wester

PORT ANGELES — Lions opened 12U National League baseball play with a 12-6 victory over Nor’Wester.

The contest was close early, but Lions went ahead for good in the fourth. Naaman McGuffey led off the inning with a single to left and advanced to third off two straight wild pitches before scoring off an Elisha Howard single.

Howard stole second and again the Lions took advantage of control issues by the Nor’Wester pitchers, with Howard taking third and scoring on balls that got by the catcher.

Daniel Cable closed the door on Nor’Wester, striking out six in three innings of work.

Race Ford, McGuffey and Howard led the Lions with three hits apiece, and rookie Rylan Politika had his first majors hit, a double to left center.

Tye Bradow had a three-run double for Nor’Wester.

Barn downs Labor

PORT ANGELES — Paint and Carpet Barn’s six-run second inning highlighted its 9-7 victory over Olympic Labor Council in 12U softball play.

Paint and Carpet, which improves to 3-1, also scored a run apiece in the first, third and fifth innings.

Olympic Labor Council was valiant to the end and brought in four runs in the final inning.

Paint and Carpet pitcher Destiny Smith earned her second win of the season, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out 10 batters.

Smith also collected two hits and drove in a run, while Ava Brinkman went 2 for 3 with a two-run triple and Savannah Bray contributed a pair of hits.

Olympic Labor pitcher Peyton Rudd went the distance and struck out six. She walked four and was credited with five earned runs.

Anna Petty, Reya Adkins and Anna Menkal each hit singles for Olympic Labor.

Swain’s smacks pair

PORT ANGELES — Swain’s has already notched a couple of blowout wins in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth baseball action this week.

Swain’s defeated Westport 18-3 on Wednesday and First Federal of Port Angeles on Monday.

Tanner Lunt earned the win over Westport by pitching three innings. He also had a hit.

Tim Adams closed the game on the mount and contributed two hits.

Isaiha Martinez led Swain’s offense with three hits, and he made a nice defensive play in left field.

Tanner Price also had a big play in right field.

For Westport, Jaidan Sieble had a hit and made some nifty catches in center field.

Slater Bradley and Andrew Pena also had hits for Westport.

In Monday’s win over First Federal, Gavin Guerraro piched four strong innings to record the win.

Trevor Shumway and a single and double to lead the Swain’s offense. Guerraro, Joel Wood, Price, Adam Watkins and Martinez also had hits.

Hayden Wood had two hits for First Federal.
