YOUTH SOFTBALL: Paint and Carpet Barn rolls to Port Angeles city championship

PORT ANGELES — Paint and Carpet Barn made a quick work of the North Olympic 12U Softball Port Angeles city championship game by knocking off Tranco Transmission 15-5 in four innings.

After holding Tranco scoreless in the first inning of Thursday’s game, Paint and Carpet Barn scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Brooklynn Alton walked, Lucah Folden singled, Jada Cargo and Emma Olsen each walked, and all four base runners ended up scoring.

Tranco came to life in the top of the second, bouncing back with five runs of its own to take the lead.

Teagan Clark singled and stole a base and was forced in by four straight walks.

Lily Halberg, Camille Stensgard, Sage Hunter and Gracie Townsend all reached base on the walks and eventually scored.

The later runners came in on singles by Emi Halberg and Peyton Hefton.

The Clark family, who had a daughter in the girls championship game and a son in the Cal Ripken baseball title game, had a busy night trying to watch both compete.

Tranco’s lead was brief as Paint and Carpet’s Savanah Bray walked, Alton walked and Folden got her second single of the game.

After all three crossed home plate, Paint and Carpet had a 7-5 lead and never looked back.

Paint and Carpet’s pitchers held Tranco scoreless the remainder of the game.

Meanwhile, the offense scored two more runs in the third off and Olsen and Destiny Smith walks, and six runs in the fourth.

Walks by Alton, Olsen and Smith combined with singles by Folden, Cargo and Ava Brenkman sealed the championship for Paint and Carpet Barn.
