PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties won in dramatic fashion Friday night against the Seattle Gumbaroos, getting a walk-off two-run home run from Colin Spear to end the game with an 8-7 victory.

Spear (Nevada) hit his home run after the Gumbaroos, from the Pacific International League, scored five runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead in the nonleague game.

The bottom of the ninth began with a walk by Spencer Dickinson of Saipan (Oklahoma Baptist University). Zach Blair came in to pinch run, representing the tying run. He stole second base, then moved to third base on an error before Spear’s bomb.

Colby Scheuber of tiny Ocosta pitched great. He started the game, going six innings and allowing just three hits while striking out five. He left the game with a 3-0 lead. Joshua Verkuilen got the final out of the ninth inning and earned the victory.

Travis Helm (Central Washington) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Ethan Kodama (University of California, Berkeley) was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Brett Haggerty (Yakima Valley College) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored and Adrian Arriaga (Point Loma Nazarene) had a two-run single in the eighth inning that turned out to be critical to the victory. He also scored a run. Drew Pfundt (Capital University) pitched a scoreless inning, walking one batter.

The Lefties play the Seattle Gumbaroos at 6:35 p.m. Saturday. They wrap up their series with Seattle at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, then go on their first long road trip of the year to Walla Walla and Corvallis, Ore., returning on June 18 to face Ridgefield.
