PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties couldn’t quite pull off a season-opening sweep over the Northwest Honkers, losing the closing game of the series 6-4 on Sunday afternoon.

Port Angeles beat the Honkers handily in the Lefties’ first two games of the year Friday and Saturday in an exhibition series against the Seattle-based team in the Pacific International League.

Derek Bogh (Cal State, San Bernardino) had a pair of hits in Sunday’s loss and stole his fourth base of the young season, and Alex Zang (Grays Harbor) hit a double.

Carter Putman of Olympic College had a pair of RBIs.

With players still arriving, the Lefties were able to get a couple of Port Angeles Roughriders into the game and both players did well. Lucas Jarnagin piched two innings, allowing one hit and one run and striking out two while walking three. Kole Acker pitched the ninth inning, allowing a hit and no runs while striking out two.

The Lefties have Monday off, then begin West Coast League play on the road Tuesday at the Victoria HarbourCats.

PORT ANGELES — A trio of Hunter Kirkpatrick, Andrew Hauck and Dillon Dribell pitched a two-hit shutout in Saturday night’s 8-0 win over the Northwest Honkers as the Port Angeles Lefties began the season 2-0.

Kirkpatrick (San Diego City College) started and went four innings, giving up no hits and one walk. He struck out four. Hauck (Utah Valley) pitched the next two innings, allowing no hits and one walk while striking out one. He got credit for the victory. Dibrell (Northern Oklahoma) wrapped up, going the final three innings and allowing two hits and three walks while striking out five.

At the plate, Bogh had a huge game with a home run, a triple, a single and two stolen bases. He scored four runs, drove in four and walked twice as he got on base five times.

Jarnagin hit a double and scored two runs. He also got on base after being hit by a pitch. Putman had a hit, a run scored and two walks. Ian Winterhalder (Grays Harbor) had a hit, an RBI and walk. Zang walked four times and had an RBI.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties started off their 2022 season with a 14-1 romp over the Northwest Honkers at Civic Field on Friday night.

The Lefties scored eight runs in the first inning and cruised the rest of the way. The game was called after seven innings.

The Lefties won with patience, taking 13 walks from Honkers pitchers to go along with eight hits. The big hitting star of the night was Gabriel DeJesus, a Yakima product who plays for Wenatchee Valley College. He had a pair of doubles, scored three runs and walked three times.

Winterhalder also had a double, a single, drove in two runs, scored a run and walked.

Riley Parker, one of several players on the Lefties from Cal State San Bernardino, was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk, while prized prospect B.Y. Choi of the New Mexico Militarty Insitute was 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk.

Kirkpatrick walked twice and scored two runs. Bogh had three walks, a stolen base and scored two runs.

On the mound, the trio of Andrew Quinones (Cal State San Bernardino), John Pfeffer (Cal State San Bernardino) and Will Isaly (East Central University of Oklahoma) allowed just six hits, three walks and one earned run while striking out 11. Pfeffer pitched three innings in relief, allowing one hit, one walk and no runs while striking out six to earn the victory. Isaly struck out two in one inning pitched.
