WILDER BASEBALL: Wilder pitchers combine for 1-0 shutout

MOUNT VERNON — Wilder Senior’s Chance Wilson and Curan Bradly combined to pitch a five-hit shutout as Wilder won the first game in a cross-state road trip against the Skagit Sox 1-0.

Wilson went six innings in Friday’s game, striking out five and giving up five hits and one walk. Bradley pitched the seventh, giving up one walk and no hits, to pick up a save. Wilder also played errorless ball.

Wilder only managed seven hits themselves in a classic pitchers’ duel.

The game was scored 0-0 in the seventh inning when Wilder finally broke through for a run. Kole Milyard started the inning off with a single and Tate Gahimer went in to pich-run. Brett Moody followed up with a single, sending Gahimer to second. Moody was thrown out at second base.

Bo Bradow hit a single, sending Gahimer to third, and Carson Jackson was hit by a pitch to load up the bases.

Joel Wood hit a grounder and got on base on an error from the Skagit Sox third baseman, allowing him to reach first base safely as Gahimer scored from third. Wood was credited with the game’s only RBI. A line drive to shortstop resulted in a double play, ending the threat.

Moody had two hits for Wilder, including a double, while Luke Angevine, Gavin Guerrero, Milyard, Bradow and Jackson all had hits.

Wilder played Saturday in Mount Vernon against the Mount Vernon Dawgs. Wilder will play a doubleheader against Wenatchee on Monday and another game against Wenatchee on Tuesday.
