TRACK ROUNDUP: (Updated) PA’s Clark, Pierce, Larson win at Shoreline Invite

SHORELINE — Port Angeles’ Leia Larson won the 3,200-meter run, Teanna Clark the javelin and Brody Pierce the boys’ triple jump at the 34-school Shoreline Invitational at Shoreline High School this weekend.

Larson won the 3,200 in a time of 11 minutes, 43.15 seconds, a personal record, winning the event by a full 11 seconds. Larson also broke her previous best time by 21 seconds. Her time is tops in the West-Central District III.

Clark won the javelin with a throw of 126 feet and 3 inches. It was her second-best throw of the year, eight feet off her best throw of 134 feet, which is best in the state among 2A girls. Her Shoreline throw was still good enough to be the sixth-best 2A javelin throw in the state. Clark won this event by 11 feet with her third-straight first-place finish.

Pierce won the triple jump with his own personal-record distance of 44-6. It was the fourth time he has won this event this year and it put him in the top five in the state among 2A boys.

Other solid finishes at the event included a fifth-place finish by the Port Angeles 4×400 girls relay. The team of Storey Schmidt, Faerin Tait, Brooke Pierce and Larson finished with a time of 4:13.55, which is tops in the West-Central District III.

Brooke Pierce was also eighth in the high jump with a leap of 4-6, while Tait was 10th in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.57.

“This was a great meet to close out our regular season,” said head coach Casey McDonald. “Our athletes showed grit and poise against top-tier competition, and these performances give us excellent momentum heading into the postseason.”

The Roughriders now turn their focus to the Olympic League Championships on Thursday and Saturday at North Mason High School in Belfair.
