TRACK: Port Townsend’s Dances wins long jump at 44-school meet; Forks’ Baysinger wins high jump at BCS Invite

SHELTON — Port Townsend’s Seren Dances won the long jump, finished second in the 200-meter run and third in the 110-meter hurdles at the Shelton Track and Field Invitational, an event featuring 44 schools, including 14 3A and 4A schools.

Dances is threatening to do a lot of damage at the state 1A meet. He has the top-ranked long jump at the 1A level after jumping a personal-best 23 feet, 1 inch at Shelton. His time in the 200-meter run was 22.63 and his hurdles time was 15.39. Dances’ hurdles time was a personal best and is ranked the second-fastest at the 1A level statewide this year. His 200-meter time is the third-fastest at the 1A level.

Dances’ teammate Riley Cowan finished second in the javelin with a throw of 164-4.

Sequim’s Murray Bingham also had a solid meet, finishing third in the mile (4:34.57). Port Townsend’s Aubrey Botkin finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.55, just off her personal best, which is the second-fastest 100-meter hurdles time in the state at the 1A level.

Sequim’s Elizabeth Sweet also finished third in the pole vault with a height of 9-6.

Overall, the Port Townsend boys finished ninth as a team out of 36 schools while Sequim came in 18th. The Sequim girls came in 20th out of 37 schools, while Port Townsend came in 27th.

Forks at BCS Invite

BELLEVUE — Forks’ Cole Baysinger finished with three top-three finishes at the BCS Track Invitational in Bellevue, including a first-place high jump of 6-1.

Baysinger finished second in the discus with a throw of 143-11 and third in the shot put with a put of 44-5 1/2. Forks as a team did well in the discus as Luke Dahlgren took fourth (124-9) and Peyton Rondeau fifth (123-4).

For the girls, the Spartans picked up a pair of third-place finishes. Enid Ensastegui finished third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:43.08, while Marissa Bailey came in third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:33.14.

A total of 18 schools competed at the BCS Invite. As a team, the Forks boys finished ninth while the Forks girls finished 12th out of 16 schools.
