TRACK AND FIELD: Forks to send 20 athletes to district meet

Clallam Bay’s William Hull wins four individual events at NOL meet

RAYMOND — The Forks boys and girls track teams picked up six first-place finishes at the Pacific 2B League championships held this weekend and will be sending a number of athletes to district.

The boys finished third with 78 points while the girls were also third with 105. North Beach won the boys meet with 190 points and the girls with 189.

Leading the way for the Forks boys was sprinter Noah Foster. He took first in the 200 in a time of 23.93 seconds and first in the 400 in 52.89 seconds.

Bryan Lucas won the 3,200 meters in a time of 11 minutes, 49.66 seconds.

Erika Williams won in the 100 meters with a personal-record time of 13.28 seconds, while Nora Gaydeski was first in the 800 in another personal-record time of 3:09.97.

The girls 4×400 team of Skye Hestand, Moli Luong, Elizabeth Morrison and Williams took first in a time of 4:36.77.

The teams had a total of 20 top-3 finishes, which qualified each athlete for district. For the boys, Gage Willenbrink was second in the javelin (133 feet, 3 inches), the high jump (5-6) and the long jump (19-1).

Kaden Ward was third in the discus (108-1, personal record) and Ayden Johnson was third in the 300 hurdles (48.52, personal record). The Forks 4×400 relay team (Johnson, Adon Arellano, Kolton Cornish and Ward) was third in 4:29.76.

For the girls, Leilee Earls was second in the 800 (3:11.83, personal record), while Kareena Nandial was second in the shot put (26-10¼) and Reagan Dunn was second in the javelin (96-5). Dunn was also third in the shot put (26-10).

The Forks girls 4×100 relay team (Hestand, Natasha Fletcher, Morrison, Williams) was second with a time of 55.37 and the 4×200 relay team (Hestand, Luong, Morrison and Williams) was second in 1:58.01.

Libby Owens qualified for district by being third in the 200 (31.24).

NOL meet

JOYCE — Dominating the sprints and the relays, the Neah Bay girls won the North Olympic League subdistrict meet held at Crescent High School, while the Clallam Bay boys dominated in running and field events both to win the boys meet.

Neah Bay finished with 59 points in Friday’s meet, edging Crescent with 39 and Clallam Bay with 28. The Clallam Bay boys had 64 points to Crescent’s 47 and Neah Bay’s 30.

Angel Halttunen had a huge day. She won the 100-meter run (13.42 seconds, nipping her teammate Alexa Greene by 0.03 of a second) and the 200 meters (27.93 seconds). She was also the anchor on the first-place Red Devils’ 4×100 relay and the 4×200 relay.

The Neah Bay 4×100 team (Greene, Danica Halttunen, Brianna McGimpsey and Angel Halttunen) had a time of 54.26, while the 4×200 (Greene, Amilia Corpuz, McGimpsey and Angel Halttunen) had a time of 1:50.97, winning by a huge gap of 12 seconds.

Neah Bay’s Caylee Moss won the 1,600 (5 minutes, 54.32 seconds), while McGimpsey won the long jump with a personal record leap of 15 feet, 4 inches.

Crescent’s Alexis Dunavant and Naomii Sprague also had big days. Sprague won three events — the 100 hurdles (17.33), the 300 hurdles (49.33 seconds) and triple jump (32-1½). Meanwhile, Dunavant won the shot put (32-10) and the discus (87-9). Katelyn Dunavant won the javelin with a throw of 87-6.

Clallam Bay had several first-place finishes. Simona Cruz-Lopez won the 400 meters (1:11.22) and Kaleeka Mendoza-McCarty won the high jump (4-6).

The Clallam Bay 4×400 team (Cruz-Lopez, Kyleigh Richardson, Mendoza-McCarty and Brilei Hull) took first in a time of 4:48.66.

Boys

Clallam Bay’s William Hull had a huge day with four individual first-place finishes — the 200-meter run (24.73), the 300-meter hurdles (44.04), the high jump (5-8) and triple jump (38-10½).

Uriel Cruz-Lopez won the 3,200 meters in a time of 12:47.23 and Cyrus Politte won the 110 hurdles (18.59), while Coletyn Hull won the long jump (18-1).

The Clallam Bay 4×100 team (Camden Pearson, Politte, Blake McNally, Coletyn Hull) won with a time of 49.47 and the 4×400 team (Cruz-Lopez, Pearson, McNally, Coletyn Hull) took first with a time of (4:02.34).

Crescent won several events. Joshua Noel took first in the 400 meters (1:01.89, personal record) and the javelin (110-6). Donovon Allen was first in the 1,600 (5:40.79)

Neah Bay had three first-place finishes. Field specialist Daniel Cumming took first in the shot put (44-9) and first in the discus with a personal-record (134-2). Andres Pascua won the 100 meters (12.89 seconds).

EJ at Nisqually meet

SILVERDALE — East Jefferson girls did very well in the triple jump in some of the early events of the Nisqually District track and field championships.

Kaida Rodrigues finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 33-4¾, while teammate Kaydence Plotner was right behind in third at 32-1.

The top finish for the boys so far is fourth in the high jump by Morgan Hanson (5-2).

Most of the Nisqually District finals will be held Thursday.
