SPORTS: Port Angeles wrestlers third in league tourney

SILVERDALE — The Port Angeles wrestling team placed third overall at the Class 3A Olympic League tournament Saturday afternoon.

Olympic won the tournament with 325 points followed by North Kitsap (214), Port Angeles (210), and Bremerton (147).

Out of the 23 wrestlers Port Angeles took to the event, 18 are moving on to the sub-regionals at Timberline High School next Saturday.

The Riders had two champions at the tournament: Nathan Cristion in the 189-pound division and Zach Grall in the 215-pound class. The latter won his division by topping teammate Corey Roblan 7-5 in the title match.

Among the wrestlers taking second for the Riders were Josh Basden (103), Montana Collins (152), Brandon Vaught (171) pounds and Jon Garland (285).

The match of the day came down to the 145-pound contest between Adam Raemer and two-time state finalist Brandon Yeik of Olympic.

Raemer lost a very tight battle 3-2 to take second place.
