Sports: Port Angeles beats Central Kitsap, 4-3

PORT ANGELES — A wild throw was just the break Port Angeles High School needed Wednesday in a 4-3 Narrows League baseball win over Central Kitsap.

The Roughriders remained unbeaten at 5-0 (2-0 in league) in front of about 100 fans, many school-aged kids enjoying the freedom of a drizzly spring break day at Civic Field.

With the bases loaded and one out in the fifth inning, Port Angeles’ Nate Gossard grounded into a sure double play.

Central made the easy out at second base, but the toss to first sailed way wide and into the visitors’ dugout.

Two Port Angeles runners scored on the play, the final runs of the game.

“That was a great break, you bet,” Port Angeles head coach Randy Steinman said.
