SPORTS: Peninsula College ties 1-1 with Tacoma; Pirates tied for first place

TACOMA — The Peninsula College men’s soccer team tied 1-1 with Tacoma on Wednesday afternoon.

All the scoring came in the second half.

Tacoma scored in the 84th minute but the Pirates got the equalizer in the 90th minute from a penalty kick given after a handball in the box.

Cody Sloan put the ball in the net for the Pirates to earn the deadlock.

Peninsula is now tied for first place with Bellevue in the West Division of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

The Pirates had 14 shots on goal to Tacoma’s six.

“We had a great first half, getting the run of play and having the ball the majority of the time,” Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said.

“We hit the post in the first minute of play and had three other opportunities just miss.”

The Pirates next play at home against Olympic on Saturday at 2 p.m.
