SPORTS: Peninsula College selects Cal Poly assistant Mitch Freeman as men’s basketball coach

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College’s search for a new men’s basketball coach is over.

Cal Poly assistant coach Mitch Freeman has agreed to lead the Pirates, Peninsula College athletic director Rick Ross confirmed Wednesday night.

Freeman spent four years at Cal Poly as an assistant under Joe Callero. According to Cal Poly’s athletic website, Freeman was the Mustangs’ lead scout in charge of game preparation and defense.

Freeman has ties to the state of Washington, graduating from Washington State in 2004, and serving as Callero’s assistant at Seattle University from 2005-09.
