NEAH BAY — Nate Tyler has been hired as the head football coach at Neah Bay High School, Tyler confirmed Tuesday.

Tyler, a longtime resident and 1990 Neah Bay High School graduate, takes over a team that finished 1-3 in the North Olympic League and 2-4 overall last year.

It is his first coaching position at the high-school level, although Tyler said he has coached at the youth and junior high school level.

Along with working as a commercial fisherman, Tyler has been involved with the Makah Tribal Council and has been involved in other youth sport and anti-drug programs in the area.

“I have a strong passion for sports and working with kids,” Tyler said by phone Tuesday. “We’re just going to try to bring this program forward, and build a program that the kids and the community can be proud of.”
