Sports: Marathon participants give rave reviews to first North Olympic event

PORT ANGELES — One of marathon director Larry Little’s main goals was to produce a world-class event that attracts runners from across the country.

If early reviews on Sunday’s first North Olympic Discovery Marathon are any indication, he’ll hit his goal by next year.

Little and his volunteer crew of 400 already have attracted runners from as far away as New York and Virginia, and word-of-mouth by this year’s competitors should help attract even more next time around.

There were 600 runners at this year’s event on Sunday, most from outside the North Olympic Peninsula, but Little is shooting for at least 2,000 next year.
