SPORTS: Chimacum baseball team remains perfect on year; Port Townsend baseball rips Vashon Island 13-2

CASTLE ROCK — Chimacum’s defending state champion baseball team remained perfect on the year by capturing a nonleague doubleheader toward the end of spring break Friday.

The Cowboys (6-0) defeated Woodland 6-2 in the first game and blasted Rochester 9-3 in the second at Castle Rock High School to get a couple of more games under their belts just in time of what should be a very busy week for most teams, weather permitting, coming out of spring break.

Regularly scheduled league games will be mixed with makeup contests this week as teams try to catch up to where they should be in number of games played.

On Friday, the powerhouse Cowboys beat Woodland behind nine hits.

Victor Sienga and Lucas Dukek both went 2 for 3 at bat while Quinn Eldridge (3-0) picked up the win on the mound.

Eldridge, Mike Nordberg and Austin McConnell combined for a two-hitter in the seven-inning game.

In the second game, Chimacum knocked out eight hits and had two errors in beating Rochester.

Dukek went 2 for 3 at the plate again, this time knocking in a run while scoring three runs.

Eldridge went 3 for 4 with two RBIs while Nordberg went 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Pitching ace Landon Cray (2-0), a three-time Nisqually League MVP and an all-state selection last year, picked up the victory on the mound.
