Roughrider girls host Saturday playoff at PC

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles will host a first-round West Central District 3 girls soccer playoff contest at noon Saturday at Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula College.

The No. 8-seeded Roughriders (8-7) will host No. 9 seed Franklin Pierce (6-10) in a loser-out contest.

Tickets for Saturday’s match can be purchased online at https://gofan.co/app/school/WA71989.

The winner will advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament and a match at Bainbridge at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

PA basketball dinner

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School boys basketball program will host a new event to introduce the varsity, junior varsity and C squad teams on Nov. 22 — a fundraising dinner, complete with a silent auction.

The event will be held at the Red Lion Hotel ballroom at 7 p.m.

Attendees can enjoy a night off from cooking while members of the boys basketball teams serve dinner.

The cost is $50 per ticket.

Ladies wrap season

SEQUIM — Members of The Cedars at Dungeness Women’s Golf Association wrapped their season Tuesday with a game of Three Clubs and a Putter.

Players choose which three clubs to use and play the round.

Eleven women took on the course for the final round of the season, and Marine Hirschfeld earned top honors in the First Flight’s Net competition with a round of 76, five shots ahead of Jane Peoples and Wanda Synnestvedt, who each shot 81.

Synnestvedt had the fewest number of putts with 30, while Hirschfeld and Peoples each had 31.

Hirschfeld was the closest to the pin on No. 4, coming within 47 feet, while Synnestvedt knocked her tee shot to within 11 feet on No. 11.

Ann Rosecrantz claimed the Second Flight Net division with a 74, followed by Lynette Sherriff at 79. Rosecrantz edged Sherriff for fewest putts 35-36.

Kathy Langston came closest to the pin on hole No. 4, hitting her shot within 36-6, while Rosecrantz was closest on No. 11 (56-6).

Youth wrestling

PORT ANGELES — In-person registration for Port Angeles Wrestling Club’s winter season will be held at the club’s location on the second floor at 112 Lincoln St. from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

The club is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade with practices held twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. Wrestlers ages 5-8 and first-year 9-year-olds will practice from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with second-year 9-year-olds and 10 and older from 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Registration is $130 per wrestler and includes a club T-shirt and a USA Wrestling membership card.

The season runs from Nov. 7 through Jan. 23 and includes optional weekend tournaments.

An advanced/competitive group for second-year wrestlers or ages 12 and older also will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Feb. 20. The cost is $200.

Discounts are available for families with three or more participants, and scholarships also are available.

Cash/check is the preferred form of payment. Debit/credit cards can be processed through Square with a service fee.
