Maxwell selected

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Alison Maxwell of Port Angeles, a 2015 Middlebury College graduate, has been selected as one of the Top 30 honorees for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Presented annually by the association since 1991, the award honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

The 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced on Sunday, Oct. 18 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In July, Maxwell was nominated for the award by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

She is the first Middlebury woman to be selected in the final 30 student-athletes since Margo Cramer in 2012.

Maxwell graduated summa cum laude with high honors in biochemistry and she was a Dean’s List selection and College Scholar every semester.

She also was a nine-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree and was recently named the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association’s Co-Scholar Athletes of the Year for Division III.

Athletically, Maxwell served as a senior captain during the cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

The fourth-year Panther opened a banner final year by winning the 2014 NESCAC Women’s Cross Country Championship and garnering All-America accolades.

Maxwell went on to win the mile run at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships to help Middlebury place fourth as a squad.

She was also a two-time All-American as a member of the distance medley relay, and the school record holder in the indoor 3,000-meter run.

During her outdoor track and field career, Maxwell was a two-time NCAA qualifier in the 1,500-meter run and wrapped up her career as an All-American in the 5,000-meter run last spring.
