SPORTS BRIEF: Spring Hoopfest scheduled for Saturday, Sunday

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department and the local boys and girls AAU groups will host the Spring Hoopfest this weekend. The youth basketball tournament, with divisions for boys and girls teams from fourth grade through high school, will have 44 teams take part.

Port Angeles has an entry in each division, with a couple entries in some age groups. Local teams will face competition from teams from Bainbridge, Federal Way, Lynden, Olympia, Port Orchard, Puyallup, Silverdale, Sequim, Port Townsend and Forks.

Play begins Saturday at 10 a.m., and at 9 a.m. Sunday with championship games slated to start in the early afternoon. Venues will be Stevens and Roosevelt middle schools and Port Angeles High School
