Volleyball
Forks 3, Tenino 1
TENINO — Despite not playing their best match, the Spartans remained comfortably in second place in the Evergreen 1A League with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-17, 27-29, 25-12) win over Tenino.
Rian Peters had 10 kills for Forks while Julia Lausche had 17 assists and six aces and Myah Rondeau had 14 digs.
Jayden Olson added six kills and Chloe Leverington had four.
“We definitely didn’t play our game. We made to many errors on our side. We relaxed too much. The girls did stay together as a team to get the win for the night,” said coach Jenn LeDuke.
With the win, the Spartans go to 4-1 in league (9-3 overall). Forks sits one loss behind unbeaten Elma. They host Hoquiam (2-4, 5-8) at 7 p.m. today.
North Kitsap 3, Port Angeles 0
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders played well early against the No. 1-ranked 2A team in the state, but could not overcome the North Kitsap firepower in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-13).
“In the first set, the girls played consistent and had one of their best performances. We were never more than a few points behind and other times … we had the lead. It was a good set for their confidence,” said coach Christine Grunch-Halberg.
The Riders were tied at 19-all and 21-all in that first set and even had a 23-22 lead when the Vikings scored the final three points to win the set.
For an idea of how big it would have been to have taken a set from the Vikings, North Kitsap has only lost five sets the entire season — three of those in two Sequim matches.
The Riders continued playing tough early in the second set as they were only down 9-8 before the Vikings got hot to win the second and third sets by wide margins.
Camille Stensgard and Aeverie Politika led the team in serving by scoring 7 and 6 points respectively. Politika led the team in kills with six, while Jaida Wood had four. Emma Olson led the team in digs with nine, while Stensgard had 10 assists and Nacia Bohman six.
The Riders (0-10, 0-12) play at home at 6 p.m. today against Bremerton (2-9, 3-9). It’s senior night, the final home match for Politika and Kylie Rentas.
Clallam Bay 3, Crescent 0
JOYCE — The Bruins swept the Loggers 25-15, 25-6, 25-22.
“We were able to get our less-experienced players some time on the court,” Clallam Bay coach Amanda Maines said. “It was a good learning game for them.”
