FORKS — Forks picked up its second penalty kick shootout win this week with a 4-3 victory (4-1 in penalty kicks) over No. 16 Montesano (9-3) on Wednesday at Spartan Stadium.
Forks (6-6, 6-5) tied the game with a goal in the 66th minute and the game would head into overtime.
The Spartans host Rochester tonight.
Port Angeles 1, Kingston 0
KINGSTON — The Roughriders strung together a solid series of passes and Matthew Miller broke through for what stood as the winning goal in the 66th minute on the road Wednesday.
Port Angeles coach Chris Saari explained how the play led to Miller’s goal.
“Aurelio Wilson-Rojero passed the ball to Caleb Lagrange out of the defense into midfield on the right side. Lagrange played a good pass centrally to Kanyon Anderson. Anderson then played a perfect long through ball in behind the Buccaneers defense.
“Matthew beat Bucs defender Noah Epperson to the ball and took a touch into the penalty box. Miller slipped a low shot to the far post as goalkeeper (Phin Dominy) came out of his goal and the Kingston defender bodied him. The shot was well placed and hit the side net of the Kingston goal to put the Riders up 1-0.”
It was Miller’s 16th goal of the season and the seventh assist for Anderson.
“I knew if I got my chance I was going to put it away and I’m glad I was able to get the goal and the result for the team.”
Goalkeeper Gus Halberg and the Port Angeles defense secured its fifth shutout.
“Gus didn’t have to make a lot of saves, but he did what he had to do and took care of a lot of balls that came into his box,” Saari said.
Saari also said Taihvan Lyle and Grant Butterworth played well in defense.
Port Angeles (7-3, 9-4) opened up a two-game lead on Sequim (5-5) for third in the Olympic League with the win.
The Riders visit second-place North Kitsap on Tuesday.
Baseball Bainbridge 7, Sequim 4
BAINBRIDGE — Every player in the Wolves’ lineup collected at least one hit, but Sequim couldn’t hold on to a momentary lead and fell on the road Wednesday.
Sequim went up 3-2 in the third, scoring runs on a Zeke Schmadeke single, a Bryant Laboy fielders’ choice and Braydan White’s sacrifice fly.
Bainbridge tied the game on Will Rohrbacher’s solo home run in the third and took a 5-3 lead in the fourth when Dom D’Amico doubled home a runner and the Spartans added a fielders’ choice.
The Wolves got one back in their last turn at bat when Dearinger notched an RBI on an infield single to score Lincoln Bear with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Sequim couldn’t keep the rally afloat.
Sequim (4-6, 4-10) hosts North Kitsap on Tuesday.

BREMERTON — The Roughriders fell on a walk-off walk in an 11-inning marathon Wednesday.
Port Angeles went up 1-0 when Josiah Gooding and Kody Williams singled and Trae Hanan grounded out to bring Gooding in.
The Riders received a strong outing from Bryce DeLeon, who allowed one unearned run on a hit and a walk with five strikeouts in six innings.
Brandt Perry’s RBI pop fly to right, scored Hanan who had reached when he was hit by a pitch, and put Port Angeles up 2-1.
Olympic answered, tying the game with an RBI double in the home half of the ninth.
The Trojans loaded the bases on an infield single in the 11th and two hit batters and came home with the winning run when Brayden Martin walked home with the winning run.
Port Angeles (4-6, 4-10) visits Orting today.

BREMERTON — Max Gagnon’s 2-over-par 38 earned match medalist honors as the Roughriders rolled past the Knights at Gold Mountain Golf Club.
Port Angeles swept the top three spots with Cale Wentz second at 40 and Tate Alton third at 41.
Austin Worthington added a 42 to tie for fourth with teammate Noah Myers and Bremerton’s Brody Wilcoxson.
Sky Gelder added a 43.
