CHIMACUM — Chimacum lost a tightly contested Nisqually League volleyball match to Vashon Island in five sets 25-19, 26-24, 14-25, 18-25, 15-13.
It was the first time the Cowboys have played five sets this season.
Megan Dukek had 36 assists, two aces and one kill for Chimacum.
Kiersten Snyder led the Cowboys with 12 kills, while Lauren Thacker contributed 11.
Thacker tied for team-highs in blocks and aces. She and Sophia Thurston had three blocks, and Thacker finished with four aces along with Olivia Baird.
Alyssa Hamilton paced the team with 26 digs. Baird and Snyder had 14 apiece. Alina Preston contributed nine digs.
Chelsey Johnson finished with 23 digs.
Chimacum (3-10) plays at Cascade Christian (7-5) on Monday.

Olympic League tournament
POULSBO — Port Angeles’ Alex Brown and Sequim doubles duo Mathew Richards and Brandon Payne have advanced to the semifinals at the Olympic League boys tennis tournament hosted by North Kitsap High School.
Brown defeated Sequim’s Nick Johnston 6-4, 6-0 and Cameron Dubos of Bremerton 7-6, 6-3 on Wednesday. He will face North Kitsap’s Matt Cregg in the semifinals.
Other singles semifinalists are Klahowya’s Jerry Landram and Bremerton’s Tim Styrlund.
Brown also secured a berth in next week’s district tournament in Bremerton.
Richard and Payne beat Port Angeles’ Daniel Manwell and Hayden Kays-Erdmann in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the semis.
Port Angeles sent two singles players and three doubles teams to the league tournament, and each won at least one match.
Nick Fritschler lost to Dubos in the first round, but then defeated Johnston 6-4, 6-2 and North Mason’s Beau Eddy 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles action, Manuel and Kays-Erdman defeated Chris Daniels and Patrick Daniels of Kingston 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 before losing to Richards and Payne and Olympic’s Darren Towne and Jacob Nemeth.
The Roughriders’ No. 2 team of Micah Needham and Jace Bohman opened with a loss to Klahowya’s Ryan and Jacob Gotchall, but rebounded to beat Eric Villar and Steven Settlemeyer of North Mason and Darren Towne and Jacob Nemeth of Olympic.
Port Angeles’ third doubles duo Tanner Gochnour and Janson Pederson lost to Kingston’s Beau Rabedeaux and Tyler Shuey, and then beat Port Townsend/Chimacum’s Wyatt Savidge and Dylan Glessing. Gochnour and Pederson lost in the third round to North Kitsap’s Josh Benson and Nick Butler.
“I was so proud of the way our guys battled today,” Port Angeles coach Brian Gundersen said.
Fritschler, Needham and Bohman are still in contention for a spot at the district tournament.
