PORT ANGELES — Sequim’s Josiah Carter and Andrew Vanderberg teamed to shoot a 5-under-par 67 in best-ball scramble format play at the 24th annual Duke Streeter Boys Golf Invitational on Friday at Peninsula Golf & Country Club.
The Wolves’ duo finished fourth overall out of 23 two-person teams.
“The tournament was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the 17th hole by Dalton Edwards from Shelton,” Port Angeles coach Gil Stockton said.
“There were so many great shots by so many talented players enjoying a fun way to play the game.
“All the players expressed a big thanks to the members of Peninsula for hosting such an enjoyable tournament.”
Streeter, a Peninsula Golf Club member and youth golf supporter, was renowned for playing as many as 72 holes in a day (without a cart) for much of his career. He died of pancreatic cancer in March of 1995 and former Port Angeles golf coach Mark Mitrovich started the event later that spring.
Capital’s Ryan Feyrer and Travis Bossio won the title after shooting 10-under-par 62.
Port Townsend’s pairing of top boys golfer Jacob Madison and the team’s lone girls golfer McKenzie Lake, teamed to shoot 77 and tie for 10th with Chimacum’s Logan Storm and Nate Miller.
Cameron Fouts and Skyler Cobb led Port Angeles with a round of 79.
Derek Sparks and Grayson Mahany also shot 98 for the Riders.
Brayden Yingling and Shawn Storey posted an 87 for Chimacum.
Sequim’s second team of Garrett Hoesel and Liam Payne fired an 80.

KINGSTON — The Wolves’ Olympic League 2A Division title hopes were dashed when the Buccaneers’ Ian Lanfear scored a golden goal in the fourth minute of overtime Friday night.
“The whole second half we had pressure on for long stretches and couldn’t quite combine to get it done,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said. “It was intense and pressure packed and we had our chances but they got the winner.
“It kind of came against the run of play. They had some pretty good combo work and got a drop shot in the top corner that beat [goalkeeper] Liam [Stevenson].”
Brasher said Ryan Tolberd came close to earning the game winner and a hat trick just before the end of regulation.
“We had two really good chances [late],” Brasher said. “Ryan Tolberd had one with about two minutes to go. He got a breakaway, beat the keeper but hit the crossbar with his shot.
“And in overtime Ryan hit a great cross into Hayuk Minano and it went just a little over the top.”
Tolberd scored twice for the Wolves, answering two Kingston scores in the first nine minutes of the match.
“We gave up a goal in the third minute, but settled down and got back in it,” Brasher said. “We scored off a long throw in to Liam Harris from Addie Berg and then Liam slotted Ryan through on the right and he finished it off.”
Kingston answered with a goal one minute later in the ninth, but Tolberd notched the tying score in the 22nd minute.
“Hayuk took it down and sent down a wicked low cross and Ryan came screaming in with a header,” Brasher said.
Brasher said Tolberd was the team’s man of the match.
Sequim (8-3-0, 9-4-0, 24 points) can finish as high as second in league with a senior night win over Bremerton on Tuesday. The Wolves are tied with North Kitsap at 24 points in the league standings but have a tiebreaker advantage with the Vikings because of an early-season win over Kingston.

BELFAIR — Andrew St. George and Ben Schneider scored and assisted on each other’s goals as the Roughriders picked up an Olympic League 2A Division on the Bulldogs’ new turf field.
Schneider set up St. George’s goal just before halftime.
“In the 36th minute, Ben took a free kick quickly and slipped a pass in behind the defense to Andrew St. George who beat the oncoming North Mason goalkeeper, Dylan Abad, with a well-placed shot,” Riders coach Chris Saari said.
“The Bulldogs were a much improved team since the last time the Riders played them at home earlier in the season (a 7-0 win). Port Angeles started off slowly but their passing game began to click better late in the first half and into the second half. [We] did a positional shift later in the half that seemed to spark some better passing and overall play.”
Schneider added an insurance goal on a nice combination play with St. George in the 69th minute.
“Schneider back heeled a pass to St. George who took the ball down the line and cut it back in front of the goal to Ben who placed his shot past Abad,” Saari said.
Saari said St. George was a key to the game on and off the stat sheet for PA, controlling the midfield, winning balls and quarterbacking ball movement.
“We had a slow start to the game, but once we started connecting a few passes and found our rhythm it became much easier,” St. George said. “The goals came from good communication between Ben and I and made it easy to find the back of the net.”
Schneider was named the offensive player of the match, St. George was picked for his work in transition and Andrew Borde was the defensive player of the game, according to Saari.
Lorenzo DeLaTorre picked up his eighth shutout of the season in goal.
Port Angeles (7-4-0, 10-4-1, 22 points) can finish as high as second in league play if the Riders can beat North Kitsap (24 points) in regulation away on Tuesday and Sequim (24 points) loses to Bremerton at home Tuesday. A loss against the Vikings seals the fourth seed to the district tournament.

PORT ANGELES — Senior Brennan Gray homered, doubled, scored three runs and drove in three as the Roughriders beat the Bulldogs on Friday.
“[She] had an outstanding day,” Riders coach Randy Steinman said.
“Port Angeles played error free ball and received stellar pitching while continuing to hit the ball around the park.”
Pitchers Callie Hall, Hope O’Connor and Ella Holland combined on a four-hit shutout and allowed just one walk.
Port Angeles (9-0, 12-1) can clinch its fourth straight Olympic League 2A Division championship and keep its 44-game league winning streak alive with a victory at North Kitsap on Monday.

Jones, Isabelle Dennis and Jessica Dominguez all had two hits for Sequim.
The Wolves (5-5, 5-11) can clinch the Olympic League 2A Division’s fourth seed to the district tournament with a win against Bremerton (1-7, 2-9) on Monday.
Rangers split pair
QUILCENE — The Quilcene softball girls lost a heartbreaker to Klahowya, giving up five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning after being within one strike of winning.
The good news is Klahowya was a nonleague game, so Friday’s 6-2 loss doesn’t affect the Rangers in the SeaTac 1B League. The other good news is the Rangers on Thursday beat Pope John Paul II 19-6 to remain undefeated in league.
Abby Weller, who has been ill, pitched the Klahowya game, giving up just one run in the first 6 2/3rds innings. The Rangers were up 2-1 with one strike left, but the Eagles’ bats erupted for five runs to take the game.
Klahowya (8-3) is a good Class 1A team, too.
Sydney Brown led the Rangers, going 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. Madison Coffey, Erin Macedo, Gina Brown and Marissa Kieffer all had hits.
Against PJP II, Brittney Beukes started on the mound, going three scoreless innings to pick up the win.
“She pitched really well. She’s coming along nicely,” said coach Mark Thompson. “I really like the effort she’s put in.”
Allie Speer went 2 for 2 with four RBIs, while Macedo went 2 for 2 with two RBI and Pearl Munn 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Quilcene outscored PJP II 58-13 in two wins this year.
With the victory, the Rangers maintain a game-and-a-half lead over second-place Rainier Christian. Quilcene (4-0, 8-4) plays Rainier Christian (2-1, 8-2) at 4 p.m. Tuesday at home. With a win, the Rangers will all but lock up a SeaTac 1B championship.

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders clinched a share of the Olympic League 2A Division title with a win over the Bulldogs at Civic Field on Friday.

Ethan Flodstrom doubled, walked and drove in a pair of runs in Friday’s game, while Carson Jackson tripled, walked, scored three runs and drove in another for the Riders.
Gavin Guerrero also had a two hits and two RBIs for Port Angeles.
The Riders committed an uncharacteristic five errors in the win leading to four unearned North Mason runs.

COUPEVILLE — The Cowboys had enough hits, eight, but left seven players on base in falling to the Wolves on Friday.
With the defeat, Chimacum will take the Olympic League’s second seed to the district tournament.
The Cowboys (5-2, 7-8) will host the Nisqually League No. 3 at home Saturday. Opponent and time are to bet determined.
Coupeville scored its two runs on a pair of Chimacum errors in the second inning in Friday’s game.

SEQUIM — The Wolves rallied for a walk-off win on senior night to stay alive in the three-team fight for the Olympic League 2A Division’s fourth and final district playoff berth with the Buccaneers and North Mason.
Kingston scored twice in the top of the seventh in Friday’s game to take a 4-2 lead.
Cameron Welcher singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh and was replaced by pinch runner Kyler Rollness. Rollness stole second and took third when Elandon Washburn reached safely on a dropped third strike.
With one out, pinch hitter Silas Thomas came through with an RBI single to score Rollness and send the tying run to third.
“On the next pitch, Ryan Clark cleared the bases with a walk-off double to deep right center,” Wolves coach Dave Ditlefsen said.
To reach the postseason, Sequim (3-7, 7-8) would need to beat Bremerton and and Olympic on the road and have Kingston beat North Mason and lose to North Kitsap next week to tie the Buccaneers in the standings.
The Wolves have the head-to-head tiebreaker with two wins over Kingston this season.
