PREP ROUNDUP: Four bowlers from Port Angeles, Sequim head to state

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles girls bowling team competed in its first West Central District tournament and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the state tournament by just nine pins.

After bowling two of the highest team scores of their season, the team found themselves in third place after the first round. However, after the Baker games in round two, the Roughriders dropped into fifth.

“I am very proud of the team as they all bowled above their regular season averages,” said coach Rebecca Gundersen.

Although the Riders as a team did not advance, juniors Abby Robinson and Paige Pangaro will represent Port Angeles at the state tournament Friday at Bowlero South in Tukwila.

Robinson earned third overall with a 174 average on the day, while Pangaro finished 16th, including a personal-best single-game score of 181.

Representing Sequim at state will be junior Morgan Kayser, who finished fifth overall, and sophomore Nikoline Updike, who was 18th.
