Volleyball Sequim 3, Port Angeles 1

SEQUIM — In a match that started close, the Sequim volleyball girls put it together to win their last three games by wide margins to take Port Angeles 3-1.

The Wolves won 20-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-15.

Sequim coach Jennie Webber-Heilman said her team had some fatigue from a weekend tournament and several players were fighting colds. The team started slowly dealing with new rotations. Middle hitter Lindsey Leader was out sick, so outside hitter Tayler Breckenridge was moved to the middle for much of the match and Jayla Julmist was brought up from the junior varsity.

Breckenridge responded with eight kills, 10 digs, four aces and five blocks. Julmist, playing her first varsity match, responded with five stuff blocks, and three aces while serving 17 for 19. It appears she earned herself a promotion with her performance.

“I’m stealing her from JV,” said Webber-Heilman.

Grittney Gale, a setter, had seven kills to go along iwth six assists and nine digs. She served 16 for 17. Kalli Wiker had 11 assists and three kills and Isabelle Dennis had 12 digs, served 15 for 17 and had nine perfect passes. Bobbi Sparks added 12 digs.

For the Roughriders, Devin Edwards led the team with 12 kills. Setter Natalie Steinman had 20 assists and 1o digs.

Brennan Gray had a good all-around match with 27 digs, five kills and three aces while Madison Cooke had six kills. Aeverie Politika added five aces.

Sequim (3-2, 4-2) hosts Kingston at 6:15 p.m. today in what will be a showdown for third place in the Olympic League, 2A Division.

“That’s going to be a battle,” Webber-Heilman said. Kingston beat Sequim earlier this season in five sets and at the moment, both teams are tied in fourth place.

The Roughriders (0-6, 0-7) host North Mason at 6:15 p.m. today.
