SILVERDALE — Down to its last out, Chimacum plated two runs in the top of the seventh and set Klahowya down in order in the home half to earn a 3-1 Olympic League 1A baseball win on Wednesday.
With the victory, the Cowboys (2-1, 6-8) are now tied with Klahowya (2-1, 5-5) for the top seed to the district tournament. Chimacum will host the decisive third game in the series at home on Friday, April 26.
Wyatt Pennington doubled to open the Cowboys’ half of the seventh and moved to third on a bunt by Aaron Serrato. Serrato was originally called out at first, but the throw to first had drawn the Klahowya first baseman off the bag.
Ben Preston then hit a ball to shortstop and the throw home nabbed Pennington at the plate as Serrato moved to third.
Jonah Diehl’s sacrifice fly to center brought home the eventual winning run and an Issac Purser RBI single scored Preston and added an insurance run for Chimacum.
Cowboys pitcher Cole Dotson tossed a complete-game three-hitter, walking one and striking out nine, including the final two batters of the contest.
Dotson helped his own cause, scoring a run and also starting a 1-6-3 double play, fielding a Klahowya grounder, throwing to Purser for a force out at short with Purser getting the batter on the throw to Chimacum first baseman Cody Clark.
Purser had three hits in the game, including a double.
Pennington drove in Dotson for the Cowboys’ first run in the top of the fourth.
Chimacum has a week off before hosting Klahowya in the rubbermatch between the two teams.

North Mason 2, Sequim 1
BELFAIR — The Wolves came out on the wrong side of what Sequim coach Dave Ditlefsen described as a “great pitching duel” Wednesday.
The teams played six scoreless innings before breaking through in the final inning.
Wolves pitcher Johnnie Young allowed just five hits and an intentional walk with two strikeouts in his 6.1 innings on the mound, but three of those singles and the walk came in the bottom of the seventh as the Bulldogs rallied.
Young previously drove in Hayden Eaton from second base with two outs in the top of the seventh to give Sequim a 1-0 lead. Eaton opened the frame with a single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt.
Brenden Kimball earned the complete-game win, allowing one run on six hits and three walks while striking out seven.
The loss moves the Wolves (4-4, 8-6) into a tie for second in the Olympic League 2A Division with the Bulldogs (4-4, 7-7). The two teams have split their two games and each team has five league games remaining.
