PREP BASKETBALL: Port Angeles girls, Neah Bay boys and girls state-bound after regional wins

MOUNT VERNON — The Port Angeles girls basketball team defeated Burlington-Edison 54-46 in the Class 2A regionals at Mount Vernon High School to become the third North Olympic Peninsula team to secure a state tournament berth Saturday.

Earlier in the day, the Neah Bay boys routed Wishkah Valley 71-50 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma to return to the Class 1B tournament, where it placed second a year ago.

In the next game at the same location, the Neah Bay girls outlasted Wellpinit for a hard-fought 56-52 win.

The Neah Bay teams will play next week in Spokane, while the Port Angeles girls will play in the 2A tournament in Yakima.

The three teams will learn their first-round opponents Sunday afternoon.
