Greene girls MVP; Chambers, Swan co-MVPs for boys

JOYCE — Neah Bay basketball players dominated the North Olympic all-league MVPs and first-team selections.

Both the Neah Bay boys and girls teams went to the state 1B tournament, with the girls winning the state championship for the third year in a row and the boys finishing fifth.

Neah Bay’s Qwaapeys Greene was named the girls’ basketball MVP while Makyah Chambers and Tyler Swan with the boys’ team were named the league’s co-MVPs.

Greene led the Red Devils by averaging 15.3 points a game, as well as 4.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists a game.

Chambers’ and Swan’s numbers were similar. Chambers averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, three assists and 3.3 steals a game. Swan averaged 14.9 points and 8.0 rebounds a game.

Neah Bay boys’ coach Stan Claplanhoo was named co-coach of the year along with George Hill of Chief Kitsap. Cherish Moss was named girls’ coach of the year.

Making the boys first team were Chambers and Swan along with teammates Jodell Wimberly and Seactis Woodruff. William Hull of Clallam Bay also made the first team.

Making the boys second team were Neah Bay’s LeAnthony Jimmicum and Daniel Cumming, Crescent’s Henry Bourm and Dom Sprague and Clallam Bay’s Dylan Simmons. Making the honorable mention team were Levi Bourm of Crescent, along with Bobby Pondelick, Waylen Sullivan, Isaiah Reynolds and Billy Jones.

For the girls, Neah Bay’s Cerise Moss, who made an impressive 81 3-pointers this season, Angel Halttunen and Wiinuk Martin all made the first team.

Crescent’s Naomii Sprague also made the first team. She had an impressive season, averaging 17.8 points a game, tops in the North Olympic, and 8.2 steals a game, among the tops in the state.

Making the second team were Caylee Moss of Neah Bay, Brielei Hull and Liliana Scordino, all of Clallam Bay, and Kali Hopper and Mariella Kneiss, a pair of Crescent eighth-graders.
