PREP BASKETBALL: Neah Bay boys’ and girls’ streaks continue

FORKS — The Neah Bay boys and girls basketball teams kept up their winning streaks with victories at Forks.

The boys held on to beat the Spartans 66-57 on Monday night, while the Neah Bay girls pulled away in a 25-12 fourth quarter to win 84-66.

It was the seventh straight win for the boys, who improved to 9-3 and are now ranked No. 3 in Ratings Percentage Index for 1B schools. The Red Devils avenged a 63-56 loss early this season to the Spartans.

It was the fifth straight win for the 11-2 Neah Bay girls, who are ranked No. 1 in RPI. In fact, the Red Devils’ only losses this year are to the No. 1- and No. 2-ranked 2B teams in the state, Rainier and Adna. They have beaten both 2A Port Angeles and 2A Sequim.

In the boys game, the contest was close at the half, with the Red Devils holding a 30-24 lead at the break. They opened up a big gap with a 23-13 third quarter. The Spartans were able to get the gap down to single digits in the fourth.

Leading Neah Bay was Makyah Chambers, who hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points. Tyler Swan had his third straight game with a double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Jodell Wimberley and Mathias Greene each scored 12. While the Red Devils didn’t shoot well from outside (6-for-23), they were a solid 50 percent from 2-point range (21-for-42).

For the Spartans, Titus Rowley had one of his best games of the year with 20 points. He shot 7-for-9 from the floor. Brody Lausche scored 14, Aiden Salazar 10 and Landin Davis eight.

Forks (6-3, 10-7) returns to Pacific 2B League play on the road at 7 p.m. Thursday against Ocosta (3-8, 5-11).

Neah Bay (9-3) hosts Clallam Bay (10-2) at 7:15 p.m. today.

Girls’ game

Neah Bay overcame a 30-point effort from Forks’ Keira Johnson to win going away.

The Red Devils shot lights out against the Spartans, shooting 53.7 percent (29-for-54) from 2-point range and 46.7 percent (7-for-15) from 3-point range.

Neah Bay had five girls in double figures. Ryanna Moss led the team with 18, while Angel Halttunen scored 15, Ezrah Ray 13 and Wiinuk Martin 12. Cerise Moss hit four 3-pointers for 12 points.

Johnson hit four 3-pointers for Forks and shot 13-for-27 for the game. Janessa Ramos and Bailey Johnson each scored seven.

The Pacific B League champion Spartans (8-0, 14-4, No. 8 RPI) played another tough 1B team, Mount Vernon Christian (14-4, No. 3 RPI), Tuesday after press deadline. They next host Ocosta (4-4, 7-8) at 6 p.m. Friday looking to remain perfect in league.

Neah Bay hosts Clallam Bay (3-6) at 5:45 p.m. today.
