EDMONTON, Alberta — The Port Angeles Lefties had their five-game winning streak snapped in Edmonton, as the Riverhawks won 6-3 in front of 9,200 people enjoying a Canada Day baseball game.
Ian Hoffstetter (Chaffey College) pitched well in relief, going 4⅓ innings and allowing three hits and one earned run.
But with Hoffstetter keeping Edmonton in check, the Lefties couldn’t take advantage. They managed just four hits all game after their bats were red-hot during their winning streak. Port Angeles had 55 hits and scored 41 runs during that five-game streak.
Sam Matosich (Centralia College) hit a triple as a pinch-hitter, drove in a run and scored a run, while Jeremy Giesegh (Cal State, San Bernardino) was 2-for-4 with an RBI, his 16th of the year. Jack Edmunds (Brown) had the Lefties’ other hit, while Taylor Kirk (Fordham) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
The Lefties (10-15 in West Coast League, 13-15 overall) played Wednesday against the Riverhawks (13-11) after press deadline Wednesday and then wrap up their series in northern Alberta at 7 p.m. today. They make a flight to Bellingham to play the Bells on the Fourth of July at 4:30 p.m.
