PORT TOWNSEND — More than 900 runners took part in the 2022 Rhody Run Redux at a new venue in the first running of the race since 2019.
The race moved from Fort Worden to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Three out of the four male and female winners were from Port Townsend.
Winning the 10K was a Port Townsend man and a former runner for the Port Townsend track and cross-country teams, Seamus Fraser, who finished in a time of 35 minutes, 14.53 seconds. Paul Smith of Olympia was second (36:28.28) and Owen Chamberlin of Tacoma third (36:43.21).
The winner of the women’s 10K was a member of the Larson family of Port Angeles, which is big in the local running scene. Lauren Larson, a former Roughrider long-distance runner and harrier, had the top women’s time in 39:22.03. She was also sixth overall. Sarah Lindstein of Victoria, B.C., was second in 41:26.47 and Holly McIlvane of Port Townsend was third at 43:30.79.
The men’s 5K winner was Stuart Howard-Smith of Port Townsend in a time of 20:58.79. Michael Cyger of Bainbridge was second at 21:38.33 and Kurt Hardesty of Port Townsend was third at 22:19.03.
The women’s 5K winner was Port Angeles middle school runner Leia Larson in a time of 22:46.94. Another runner was originally listed as the winner, but the results have since been corrected. Coming in second was Kristelle Harrington of Yakima in 25:44.65.
