EDMONTON, Alberta — Port Angeles gained the upper hand — and the lead — with a seven-run seventh inning explosion in a 16-9 West Coast League win over the Edmonton Riverhawks at ReMax Field on Wednesday.
Reigning WCL Player of the Week Tommy Markey was a spark once again for the Lefties, coming through with his fourth three-hit game, and sixth multi-hit game in his last 10 games played.
Chaz Doughty drove home a team-high five runs, including a three-run home run late in the contest for Port Angeles.
Will White also totaled three hits on the night, including a double, with three RBIs and Tyler Shulman also came through with three hits and a walk, stealing a base, scoring twice and driving in a run. White brought his batting average up to .308 on the summer.
Taylor Kirk was hit by a pitch to open the big inning and Chaz Doughty later came through with a two-run single to score Kirk and Dom Dominguez.
A White RBI single scored Doughty, White came home on a Joyce sacrifice fly, Garrett Cooper added an RBI single and with the Lefties batting around in the order, Kirk brought home Markey on a groundout.
Doughty added some insurance in the top of the ninth, connecting on a three-run home run to score Kirk and Markey.
Garrett Patterson and Kayne Jinks were effective in relief appearances for the Lefties. Patterson tossing three innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk with a strikeout. Jinks also logged three innings, giving up a run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts to pick up the win.
Port Angeles (11-15) has won seven of its last 10 games.
The Lefties are in Bellingham for a three-game series this weekend with a Fourth of July matinee set for 4:05 p.m. today.
