GYMNASTICS: Port Angeles and Sequim will send two gymnasts to state

OLYMPIA — Two members of the Port Angeles/Sequim gymnastics team qualified to move on to the state championships thanks to their performances at the District 3 championship this weekend.

Seven out of the eight gymnasts on the team qualified to compete at district.

Sequim junior Lucy Spelker qualified for state in all four events — floor, vault, beam and bars. She had a season-high score of 9.225 in the floor, one of the top scores at district.

Port Angeles sophomore Ryah Deleon qualified for state on the vault. Sequim and Port Angeles gymnasts compete together during the regular season but in the postseason compete for their schools.

The state championships will be held at Sammamish High School beginning Thursday.
