A SPECIAL CELEBRATIONto mark the 89th anniversary of Discovery Bay Golf Course is planned for the venerable Port Townsend-area course Saturday, June 7.
Discovery Bay will offer reduced green fees of $8.90 all day.
In addition, an 89-cent hot dog and soda special in the clubhouse snack bar is planned until 2 p.m. or while supplies last.
Wilson Staff is turning 100 this year, and in conjunction with the celebration, a Wilson Staff sales rep will be on hand to conduct a custom fitting/demo day with the brand’s newest product lines from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Discovery Bay also has launched a Thursday evening nine-hole skins event starting at 5 p.m. each Thursday.
The entry fee is $10 which covers gross and net skins and a shot at a closest to the pin prize.
Green fees for nonmembers is an additional $10.
Discovery Bay’s Ladies Golf Clinic will tee it up for the first time Friday, June 6.
This is a six-week series of lessons covering everything from grip, stance and posture all the way through wedge play and how to hit a driver.
Golfers can choose from attending all six lessons for $50, or $10 per clinic.
Space in the series is limited in order to provide more instructor/student teaching.

CASA golf benefit
Henry Meyer sent word that sign-ups are underway for the second Court Appointed Special Advocates Golf Tournament set for SunLand Golf & Country Club on Saturday, June 7.
All proceeds benefit children who have been removed from their families for abuse or neglect.
More than 210 children in Clallam County have been placed in foster care for their safety.
A four-person scramble format, the tournament is open to players of all skill levels.
Golfers can sign up individually or as teams.
Entry is $50 per player, $25 for Sunland members, and $40 for Peninsula Golf Club members (cart fee included for Peninsula members).
Carts for nonmembers are $15 and can be reserved through the SunLand Pro Shop.
The entry fee includes green fees, tee prizes, hot dogs at the turn, prizes and more.
There are prizes for best teams, longest drive and closest to the pin on all par 3s.
Last year’s tournament raised more than $3,700.
This money was used to enrich the lives of children in our communities.

Rhody fest benefit
Port Townsend Golf Club hosted the annual two-event Jim Caldwell Memorial Rhody Open last weekend.
The tournament raises funds for a Port Townsend tradition, the Rhododendron Festival.
“It’s always great to see so many faces in town during Rhody weekend,” Port Townsend Golf Club head pro Gabriel Tonan said.
Sunny weather came out on both days and helped the course look and play great.
“We raised over $1,700, including generous donations from the Caldwell Family,” Tonan said.

Hospice benefit recap
Lindsay Busch sent along a recap of the Cedars at Dungeness Lady Niners’ third annual Memorial Tournament, held last Thursday.
The tournament is a time to remember those lady golfers who have passed way while raising funds for Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, or VHCC.
Warm weather and a desire to do some good for a great cause brought out 34 participants, the largest turnout yet for this event.
Invited guest VHCC Patient Care Manager Bette Wood spoke to the assembled about the range of services provided at no cost for those at the end stage of their lives and for their families and caregivers.
This can range from skilled nursing care and pain management to providing specialized medical equipment and counseling for patients and their loved ones.
Tournament chair Jo Hendrickson, was pleased to announce that the event raised around $1,300 in donations, the largest amount in tourney history.
As several organizers noted, VHCC is an organization that will likely touch most of our lives at one point or another.
Kitty Gross put together signs on many of the greens with some beautiful and touching portraits of some dearly departed golfing companions having fun on the course.
Vernice Quigley outdid herself this year in organizing the successful raffle of prizes donated by the golfers and by the pros at Cedars at Dungeness, Bill Shea and Garrett Smithson.
The organizers this year decided to award modest prizes of sleeves of balls in lieu of dollar prizes so that more of the proceeds would go to VHCC.

“We would like to thank the lady golfers from Peninsula Golf Club, both the 18-hole group and nine-hole groups from Cedars at Dungeness, and the management and staff at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course for their contributions to the success of this worthwhile event,” Busch said.
