LADIES GOLF CLUBS have selected award winners after wrapping up another successful season on the fairways and greens of the North Olympic Peninsula.

Janet Real sent along news from the Sunland Women’s Golf Association, which met last month for a meeting and luncheon. Golf was on the agenda, but October’s rain washed that thought away.

The association announced its Ringer winners at the event, a competition where the lowest score on each hole during the duration of the competition is totaled for a game score.

The Ringer’s gross winners are Bobbie Piety, Cynthia Edel, and Nan Godfrey and net winners are Judy Nordyke, Christie Wilson, and Nonie Dunphy.

Jan Prout was awarded for playing the most golf at Sunland during the season. Prout broke the century mark in rounds played (101).

Hilda Duncan was selected as the most improved golfer, and Sherry Meythaler and Eileen Larsen tied for most birdies.

The biggest piece of news is the Sunland Lady Niners voted to disband as a separate group and join the 18-hole Sunland Women’s Golf Association.

“We are delighted to become one organization and will still support ladies playing either nine or eighteen holes of golf on play days,” Real said.

The group’s season highlight was its annual Drive for a Cure Tournament and Luncheon held Sept. 29 with 56 golfers and 68 luncheon attendees.

Golfers included men and women from both Sunland and Cedars at Dungeness.

Guests joining for the luncheon program included: Bruce Skinner, executive director of the Olympic Medical Center Foundation; Tiffany Lambert, program supervisor of Woman’s Imaging at OMC; John Troglia, director of Diagnostic Imaging at OMC; OMC Cancer Center Patient Navigator Susan Clements and Janaye Birkland of Sequim Health and Rehabilitation.

Real said donations included many beautiful raffle baskets as well as contributions from Sunland Membership, lady golfers from Cedars, Windermere, Anytime Fitness, Peninsula Mortgage, Sunland Golf Pro Tyler Sweet and a generous anonymous matching donor from Sunland.

A total of $5,000 was given to Olympic Medical Center to provide mammograms for local women without insurance or the ability to pay for a mammogram.

Music was provided by the Alpen Sound musicians.

Real thanked the event’s hard-working committee members were Christie Wilson, Lani Warren, Judy Flanders and Sherry Meythaler.

The outgoing officers for the 2015-2016 season are: Cheryl Coulter, Eileen Larsen, Geri O’Claray, and Ruth Lowe.

The new officers for the 2016-2017 season are: Cecil Brown, Eileen Larsen, Marsha Carr and Christie Wilson.

Lady Niners feted

Deb Kahle let me know the Lady Niners of Cedars at Dungeness held their year-end fall luncheon and officer election last month with a turnout of 24 players.

The new officers for 2017 are: Captain: JP Persall, Co-Captain: Carol Ormsby, Secretary: Lee Stanley, Treasurer: Cherste Nilde and reigning Club Champion: Pat Conway.

Awards for the group’s Eclectic competition also were given out.

Low Gross award winners: Darla Shaw and Conway were the low gross winners with a score of 34. Olivia Brehm, Donna Maclean and Pearsall finished second and Debbie Kahle and Jan Boyungs were third.

Low Net award winners: Lindsay Busch and Pat Charters teamed for a score of 21. Kitty Gross, Lyn Gilbert and Lilli Gomes came in second and Vernice Quigley and Arleen Cox placed third.

Brehm recorded the most birdies during the season with seven.

Carol Ormsby also was named the group’s most improved player.

Peninsula ladies

Sandy Granger passed along word that the Peninsula Golf Club Lady Golfers met last week to recognize the group’s golf achievements during the 2016 season and elect officers for the coming year.

“Sue Barber is continuing as our president, and vice-president Sherry Henderson is also continuing,” Granger said.

Chris Anderson will serve as the club’s new secretary, Doris Sparks as treasurer and Linda Bruch is club captain.

In keeping with the luncheon’s Trick or Treat theme, costumes were in order.

The winning costume for the day was the red-headed witch, Helen Arnold and the No. 9 Chief Justice, Sandy Granger, was second.
